Father Rod's Comments

Dear Friends:

Summer is a time when the pace of our lives seems to slow down a bit and we find space in our busy schedules for spiritual reflection.  Many of you have been doing so by attending one or both of the Sunday Bible studies and/or the two “museucharists” that featured first Braham’s Requiem and then the Blind Boys of Alabama and Soweto Gospel Choir.

During August the Parish is participating in the One Parish – One Book Program.  It is similar to the One Book Sacramento Program that many of you have participated in.  Everyone is encouraged to read the same book and then come together for a community discussion of it.  The book we are reading is entitled Forgiving Ararat by Gita Nazareth.  It is a piece of imaginative fiction in which the author constructs a picture of life after death.  It can be purchased at the Cathedral Bookshop, through Amazon, or by having Barnes & Noble or Borders order it for you.  The Cathedral has copies on the shelf.  Our discussion of the book will take place after the 10 a.m. service on August 29th.  There will be a presenting panel as well as an opportunity for comments and questions from the audience.  I hope you will consider adding this to your summer reading and joining us on August 29th.  God bless you.
