Vestry & Delegate Candidate Criteria at St. Michael’s Church

ELIGIILITY
According to our diocesan Canons a person elected to the vestry must fulfill the following requirements:
· Be a communicant in good standing
· Be a member of St. Michael’s for at least 6 months preceding election
· Be regular in attendance at Sunday worship services
· Be a pledging member or giver of record entitled to vote in the Annual Meeting of the congregation, as described in the By-Laws of St. Michael’s Parish and the Canons of the Diocese of Northern California.

ADDITIONAL QUALITIES DESIRABLE IN CANDIDATES
Each nominee for the Vestry should:
· Have a strong personal commitment to Jesus Christ and to carrying out Christ’s ministry, as expressed in the Baptismal Covenant (BCP, pp 304-305)
· Be willing to seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance in all deliberations and decisions.
· Be active in the life of the parish and willing, as a parish leader, to support the mission and ministry of St. Michael’s Church.

BASIC DUTIES OF VESTRY MEMBERS
· Attend regularly scheduled vestry meetings (3rd Monday of each month at 7 PM).
· Attend the annual Diocesan Leadership Conference on February 25, 2012 (Trinity Cathedral).
· Attend two vestry retreats related to the pastoral transition process (TBA).
· Serve as vestry representative to an identified parish committee or ministry

DUTIES OF DELEGATES
Delegates should meet both the “eligibility requirements,” exhibit the “additional qualities” outlined above, and:
· Be able to attend the Spring (May) & Fall (October) Convocations and the Annual Convention of the Diocese of Northern California: November 9-10, 2012 (location TBA).
